An interesting mixture of the old and new world exists in this city state. During its time as a country it has had two different capitals. The original capital and current capital are found in the same city, Falmoran on the Khoit River. During the Great expansion the capital moved to the port city of Sale after the completion of the Sale Canal. A majority of the trade between the old world and new world way facilitated through Sale because it allowed access to the Khoit River which then lead to the other civilizations. Some trade happened across the Barrier Mountains and Upruvago River but it was not nearly as easy or fast. Falmoran grew rich off this trade route and moved their capital to Sale to put its government in the new center of power. It grew to be the strongest of the Old World countries during the Great Expanse. The influence of the New Worlds ideas spread quickly through Falmoran and it was the first of the Old World countries to adopt the freedoms of the New World. Today it and Tarmein are the only countries that still hold this ideology. When the Great War broke out Falmoran was the only Old continent country to really take notice. As the war raged on FAlmoran pushed the other countries to come to the aid of the New World but they didn’t listen. It was only at the end of the war the Falmoran finally convinced the other countries to join them in war.
When the war finally ended though Falmoran was too crippled from helping the New World to remain at its power. Sale, once the richest and largest city in the Old Continent collapsed in on itself and threw Falmoran into an economic depression. The Government moved back to Falmoran and was by some miracle able to stay a republic, in some sense, many religious leaders point to this as proof of the gods still watching over mankind. There was a mass emigration from Falmoran, most people went to Tarmein, seeking the old life they had known.
Today Falmoran is no longer the powerful nation it used to be but past still remains strong in its people. Many in the Government constantly think of the New World as a place to come again, some in hope others in fear. The High Lords are the descendants of the merchants who became rich beyond reason from the trade with the New World and lobbied ever so hard with other countries for its survival. Their grandsons and granddaughters were the ones who eventually able to pull the country from its ruin and save the ruling body from collapsing.
